Classes/Services for Winter (January 2012)
Tutoring Program
Trained volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adult learners in basic reading, writing and math skills. Tutoring for English as Second Language students is also offered.
This service is provided thru out the year. For more information on how to acquire the services of a tutor please call 403 652-5090.
English as a Second Language Classes
Literacy for Life is continuing to offer instruction in English Language skills. These classes include reading, writing and conversation skills. Some of these classes are sponsored by FCEC in partnership with Literacy for Life. We are offering classes in Okotoks and High River. For more information on these classes please call 403-652-5090.
Start date for this program will be January 9, 2012 in High River & January 15, 2012 in Okotoks.
General Equivalency Diploma Readiness Class
PREREQUISITE: In order to be successful, learner should be around a grade ten learning level.
This preparation course will increase your language arts and math skills as a first step towards writing the GED examination. This is a FCEC program offered in partnership with Literacy for Life.

Computer Basics Workshops
In January 2012, Literacy for Life, in partnership with The Okotoks Public Library, will be instructing free weekly workshops on basic computer programs and their usage.
These workshops are open to any person requiring these kinds of services

Comfortable, Comprehensible Computing
For the new and the nervous computer users, get hands-on practice with relaxed one on one instruction. This service will continue to be delivered by Literacy for Life, in partnership with the High River Library.

English as a Second Language Course – PREREQUISTS: Learners must be Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or a Refugee to be eligible to attend these classes. Proof of visa status must be submitted.
Learners who do not fit these criteria must pay $240.00 per person per course

Computer Courses – The course that is being held in partnership with the Okotoks Library will be cyclic for 3 months. The first two classes will be basic navigation and management. The last two will be learning about e-mail and use of the internet. Also note that this class will be instructed on lap tops. We have access to five laptops for learner use. After those have been spoken for learner must provide their own laptop.
The course being held in partnership with the High River Library will be one on one tutoring. For that service learner will be asked to contact Virginia at 403 336-5048.
