Family Literacy Day – January 27th

Help us celebrate Family Literacy Day by sharing the gift of stories. Below is the first paragraph of a story. Different people or groups add a paragraph until everyone has helped to write the story. You can do it within your family, with other families, at work or with a group that you belong to.

When the story is done hand it into Literacy for Life Foundation. All the stories will be put into a book format. Make sure you add a title for the story and who should get credit for the story (and their phone or e-mail contact number.) Each group or family that writes a story will get a copy of the book. It will also be posted on our web site at www.litforlife.com

Submit it by mail to #3 1204 – 10th St. SE, High River, T1V 2B9, email – literacy @telus.net or bring it to your local library on Family Literacy Day, January 27th. (prefer it by email or on disc)

Another way people can “Share the Gift of Stories” is by helping us with our Books for Babies Program. Do you have new, washable, child suitable material that you can donate to our program? Directions for making the bags are also available at the libraries and we will gladly accept the gift of the material or the material already in bag form. Donations can be dropped off at the High River, Okotoks, Black Diamond or Millarville Library, local health unit or our office. (Directions for making bags are on our web site or at the local library)

They usually went the same way every time but this trip was a little different. They saw a cave in the side of the hill and Mandy decided they needed to explore. They climbed to the cliff, pulled the branches away from the opening and…………….

June 4th 2006

The 3rd Annual "Wheels and Words" Charity Ride was a resounding success. 66 bikes were registered up from 13 in
2005. $9,200.00 was raised for two great causes - Literacy for Life Foundation and FREMS Emergency Mountain Bike Team.

Riders enjoyed beautiful weather, great scenery, and prizes galore. The scrabble run was a hit and 110 people sat down for a steak barbeque donated by Cargill and cooked to perfection by the High River Kinsmen. Check back in January for information on the 2007 ride to be held on June 3rd.

Thank you to all the local riders who collected pledges, invited others to the ride and to the businesses that provided donations and support.
